Spotify wants to end piracy and blocks Premium APK versions
The platform has taken down the most popular pirated versions

BarcelonaSubscription-based platforms continue their crusade against piracy. Now it's Spotify's turn: the music app has taken down many modified versions that allow users to use its features without paying. Yesterday, many users who used to have some APK versions of the platform reported that they are no longer operational. However, despite the massive blocking, some continue to work, according to users on social networks.
Spotify Premium APKs are versions of the official Spotify app modified for Android. They provide users with the same features as a Spotify Premium subscription. They allow access to music without ads and free choice of songs, but without having to pay the monthly subscription. They also allow users to download music so they can continue listening despite not having coverage. An APK is, in fact, a type of file done for Android devices that can be installed without having to go through Google Play, Google's official app market, thus allowing you user to bypass its controls.
The security dangers of APKs
For security reasons it is not recommended to download any file that claims to be a Spotify APK right now: after the fall of the most popular ones, many people are looking for new shortcuts on the platform. This has created a very easy window for cybercriminals, who take advantage of these types of situations to circulate files with viruses inside APKs, because Google does not review them.
Why is Spotify removing unofficial APKs?
To understand the reasons behind Spotify's new we only need to look at its business model. Inthe last presentation of company results, the platform specified that of the 15.673 billion dollars that they had invoiced in all of 2024, 13.819 billion had come from subscriptions. Thus, their paid service provided them with 88% of the income. Before taking any further action, it is expected that Spotify will wait for at least some of the former users of the pirated versions to switch to the Premium service.
