Artificial intelligence also comes to WhatsApp
After two years available in the United States, Meta has confirmed that the tool will soon be available in Europe.
BarcelonaAfter months with its own artificial intelligence on Elon Musk's social network, X, Mark Zuckerberg has also announced that he will incorporate this technology into WhatsApp. Unlike Trump's advisor, the Facebook founder has chosen to name his own AI with the same name as his company: Meta. The tool has been operating in the United States for two years, but now a statement from WhatsApp has confirmed that Meta AI will also be arriving in Europe soon and will be available in six European languages.
Conversational intelligence will appear in the WhatsApp application as another icon in the shape of a blue circle on the WhatsApp chat screen. Specifically, it will be just above the icon to create a new chat, in the lower right corner. This will be a very similar procedure to the chatbot that ChatGPT uses when answering user questions, which is why some point to the new Meta AI as ChatGPT's competition.
"Meta AI is coming to Europe and the UK thanks to WhatsApp, available to answer your questions faster than you can drink your espresso," said the WhatsApp statement on the X platform. In addition, Zuckerberg has also assured that the implementation of this tool will not only be on the messaging platform, but also intends for it to be available in the other Meta applications, which are Instagram and Facebook.
As explained by Meta, artificial intelligence can be used as a conversational chat, but it can also be used within a WhatsApp conversation by writing @MetaAI and then adding the question to be resolved.
Even so, there are other premises to keep in mind when using this tool:
- It is optional, that is, it is always the user who decides when and where to use Meta AI.
- When using Meta AI in group conversations and with third parties, the artificial intelligence will never answer questions; rather, it must be a participant in the conversation.
- There will always be an icon that will distinguish an artificial intelligence response from a regular one.
- This tool promises end-to-end encryption within WhatsApp, meaning that information shared within the app won't allow Meta to access messages or listen to conversations.
