BarcelonaThe Grammy Awards red carpet is usually marked by an eclecticism and eccentricity that sets it apart from other awards shows this season, such as the Oscars or the Golden Globes. However, this year it was considerably more conservative, with one notable exception: singer Chappell Roan, who left virtually nothing to the imagination. The carpet also provided space for political protest, with many of the stars carrying pine trees in opposition to ICE, the controversial U.S. Immigration and Border Protection agency.

Chappell Roan

Usually closer to excess and drag aesthetics, this time the singer of Pink Pony Club opted for a revealing Mugler design. The wine-colored dress—which was the same color as her hair—was backless, but also an topless: the almost transparent fabric was fastened at her breasts with nipple piercings. In this way, her breasts were exposed, as well as her numerous tattoos. Roan provided the most striking moment of the red carpet when she removed the cape she was initially wearing, revealing her daring stylistic choice.

Lady Gaga

With her look for the Grammys, Chappell Roan proved to be a worthy successor to Lady Gaga, who for years held the title of official eccentric of every awards show. Although never boring, the New Yorker has long since moved beyond her most daring looks. This year she also made an impact, with a form-fitting black feather dress that stood out for its high neck and spectacular train. The design, very much in style with Lady Gaga's latest album, is a creation by Matières Fécales.

Sabrina Carpenter

Another of the night's big stars, Sabrina Carpenter, chose a less theatrical and more innocent-looking design than Lady Gaga's. The singer of Manchild appeared on the red carpet in a silver Valentino gown with a mermaid silhouette and beading. The bodice featured an intricate floral pattern.

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus looked much more comfortable with her long favored black and a rock aesthetic. The Flowers singer wore a Céline design that consisted of black trousers, a white shirt, and a black leather biker jacket adorned with a brooch bearing her initials, MC. She paired her look with dark sunglasses—a detail that has recently become a staple on her red carpets—and black gloves.

Bad Bunny

Black was also the color chosen by Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny, who sported a tuxedo from Schiaparelli. This is the first time the Italian-rooted brand has created menswear for a red carpet. It passed as a classic design, but it was actually a reinterpretation of a women's tuxedo the brand presented in the Spring 2023 Paris runway show, featuring a back that emulates a corset with gold eyelets and leather laces.

Olivia Dean

Classic and very elegant was the look of one of the latest sensations in British music, Olivia Dean. The singer of The art of loving, one of the winners of the night, stepped onto the red carpet in a black and white Chanel dress that covered her upper body in black feathers.

Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish also opted for a black and white look, always true to her style. This time she wore an outfit custom-made by Hodakova: with a skirt that looked like it was made from a pair of trousers worn upside down and a men's Baracuta-style jacket as a top. Eilish, winner of the best song for Wildflower, was one of the artists who wore a pin against ICE.
