Trump's face, even on United States passports
The State Department announces the issuance of a limited edition to mark the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence
BarcelonaThe US president insists on leaving his name for history. Since returning to the White House just over a year ago, he has put his name on important Washington buildings, a new class of Navy ships, the golden visa program for millionaires, a federal website for prescription drugs, and a federal savings account for boys and girls. Now his name and portrait will also appear on US passports. The United States will issue a limited edition of passports, to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the country's founding, which is being celebrated this July 4th. The president's portrait, with a serious pose and his signature in gold ink, will be printed on one of the inner pages, above a reproduction of the 1776 Declaration of Independence.
"These passports will incorporate personalized illustrations and enhanced images, while maintaining the same security features that make the United States passport the most secure document in the world," said the State Department spokesman, who did not directly refer to Trump's portrait. All citizens will be able to opt for this limited edition, which will have no additional cost, until supplies are exhausted.
The US Mint, the United States' mint, has also announced the issuance of a commemorative gold coin with Trump's image to celebrate the anniversary, and the Treasury Department has explained that new banknotes will be issued with the president's signature. It will be the first time in history that this has happened with a president in office.
