The future of Israel, according to the CIA

A recent report prepared by CIA specialists that has emerged this week shows the concern in Washington regarding the future of Israel. The leak of the report coincides with the third anniversary of the brutal Hamas attack launched from the Gaza Strip which caused the death of nearly 1,200 Israelis on October 7, 2023.

On one occasion, the statesman Shimon Peres, now deceased, asserted that the future of Jews around the world was guaranteed since the creation of the Jewish state in 1948. According to Peres, it is completely impossible for a situation similar to that of Germany in the thirties of the last century regarding the Jews to repeat itself in the world. The CIA report, prepared last August, states that for decades, Israel's strength was not only guaranteed by American weaponry and the unconditional support of the great global power, but also by its indisputable military superiority, the incontestable superiority of its intelligence services, and the internal cohesion of the country.

However, this latest report does not confirm the unquestionable security that the Americans had until now regarding the future of Israel. Instead of the clear snapshot of previous assessments, the current situation is not so idyllic: behind the image of a powerful Israel, a series of economic, political, social, and religious contradictions are accumulating that do not guarantee that the visible Israeli military and economic superiority can contain them, says the report.

The independent portal Drop Site News, based in Washington, has echoed the CIA document, highlighting the possibility that Israel is drifting towards a “civil war” or “the collapse of its institutions” precisely because of the political, economic, and social divisions that are becoming more evident every day. It stresses that the report has been prepared by CIA experts who know Israel well and have many years of experience in the region. It is not a report put together by inexperienced people, and in many aspects, its conclusions are supported by Israeli experts who daily say that the country is rapidly sliding down a slope towards an unknown but not positive future.

As of now, Donald Trump is a guarantee and an unconditional support for Israel that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wants to take advantage of, especially on two fronts: the Iranian and the Palestinian. On one hand, he has set the goal of ending the Islamist regime in Tehran and is dragging Trump in that direction. On the other, there are Israeli leaders, both inside and outside the government, who openly speak about expelling the 2.2 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

A central issue is that Trump will not be president forever and the next one could be a Democrat. Within the Democratic Party, there are significant currents of activists and politicians who are distancing themselves from Israel. This makes Netanyahu want to resolve the two marked objectives before Trump leaves the White House. With a president not inclined towards Israel and with a country increasingly divided each day, Israel could drift towards a dangerous point for its existence.
