BarcelonaDonald Trump's plan for the future of the Gaza Strip, agreed between the United States and Israel and approved by the UN Security Council, It establishes the deployment of an International Stabilization Force (ISF) in the Palestinian territory until 2027The objective, according to the agreement, is for this military force to provide "support to the verified Palestinian police in Gaza" and contribute to "securing the border areas." Until now, no party had specified which countries would form the FIE, nor how many soldiers each state would contribute. But this Tuesday, Indonesia began to shed some light on the matter: the Asian country estimates it could contribute up to 8,000 soldiers, and asserts that a total of approximately 20,000 troops will be deployed along the Gaza Strip. However, there is still no signed public document. Indonesian presidential spokesperson Prasetyo Hadi explained that the exact number of troops has not yet been discussed, and that the figures presented by the government on Tuesday are approximations. "We are preparing in case an agreement is reached and we need to send peacekeeping forces," Hadi stated. These preparations, according to Chief of Staff Maruli Simanjuntak, would be military training exercises for the troops the country is prepared to send to Gaza.

On February 19, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is invited to the first meeting of Trump's Peace Board. the body that the US president presented in mid-January in Davos and which, as he himself pointed out, should serve to resolve the current phase of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, in addition to other global conflicts and challenges. At this meeting, to be held in Washington, where the Board is to be headquartered, it is expected that the details of the FIE's structure and deployment in Gaza will be discussed and finalized with other countries.

For now, Subianto has not confirmed his attendance at the meeting. Before paying the $1 billion required to become a permanent member of the Peace Board, Indonesia wants to continue negotiating some outstanding issues regarding the military force to be deployed in the Gaza Strip, although the Asian country has not clarified with whom it will discuss this and other matters.

A new Israeli offensive

Beyond the creation of an international military force to temporarily assume security in the Gaza Strip, Trump's plan also envisions the disarmament of Hamas and a cessation of Israeli attacks. So far, neither of these points has been met. Since the ceasefire began, Tel Aviv has killed nearly 500 Palestinians in GazaA violation of the agreement that continues unabated: in the last few hours, four people have died in several attacks.

Regarding Hamas's disarmament, there has been no public progress either. For this reason, according to reports The Times of IsraelThe Israeli army is preparing plans for a new offensive in the Gaza Strip with the aim of disarming the Islamist group. The Hebrew media outlet notes that, should Israel choose to resume hostilities, now without Israeli hostages in Gaza, the attacks could be even more intense than those carried out so far.
