Pepa Bar en Vinos: teak, wines, and entertainment in the Eixample

Today we are in front of one of my favorite places in the city of Barcelona: Pepa Wine BarI've had some very nice wines, and I'd say I've never even had the menu in my hands. In most cases, it's been the work of Camila Espinoza, the restaurant's owner and sommelier, who has done her best work, finding what we liked best. And the day you come back, you perfectly remember what you drank the last time. I've been able to study the food menu well, and I like to try the dishes, which change as the seasons go by.

The restaurant, located at 41 Aribau Street, is a bubble in this area of Barcelona's Eixample district. It has a great atmosphere, recognizable cuisine, and a very civilized balance between regulars and visitors. It's the perfect place for dates, and more than a few savvy customers have made it their base camp. Or just to go with friends. It's also very common to see familiar faces from the Catalan scene: actors, musicians, and journalists. And if you don't see them in person, take a look at the Polaroid photos hanging around the restaurant; you're sure to recognize some.

The restaurant's concept is dishes to share. From a never-failing Russian dish, to the ensaimada with ricotta, sobrasada, and honey, to succulent eggs with baby broad beans and torn white sausage. It's a very popular establishment, so it's best to make a reservation. Just keep one thing in mind: you know Pepa when you come in, but not when you leave.
