BarcelonaLos Planchats de la Gis is the story of Gisela Casas's professional transformation. Until she was fifty, she had worked in communications, but then decided to leave it all behind to pursue her passion: cooking. With her training under her belt, she opened the establishment in Barcelona's Plaza Molina last March, where you can eat creative and delicious sandwiches for ten euros.

You'll find sandwiches for all tastes: from eggs Benedict to Iberian secret with cheese. scamorzaSmoked salmon, caramelized onion, and beer mustard; sobrasada with Maó cheese and honey; vitello tonnato (one of the top recommendations), and the list continues with two others that are perhaps for the more daring. In fact, one of the two already has that name, the Atrevido, and is filled with tripe, mayonnaise made with its own sauce, a spicy touch and piparras. The second is Carbonara, made with guanciale, Parmesan cheese, and the carbonara sauce made by Gis, with egg yolk and pecorino cheese. And a third, the crispy, salt-and-peppered rostas, named El Castís. Those craving classic sandwiches will find other options, such as the bikini, Planchats-style, with Duroc ham, smoked butter, and Urgelia cheese (DOP Alt Urgell), in addition to the traditional local cured meats.

The menu, both the paper menu and the one written on the blackboard, is in Catalan. And our final recommendation is to try the dessert, made by Gis, which includes a chocolate, oil, and salt grilled cheese. And last but not least: at Els Planxats de la Gis, you can have breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The breakfast croissants are from Canal bakery, to which Gis gives his personal touch.
