The production is so extensive that a concise selection can serve as a basic map. And if none of the 10 proposals convince you, the festival installs some food trucks available to attendees.
To eat a dreamy rice in the middle of an oasis
Eating rice by the sea is always the best option in Sitges, and the good news is that it's possible and excellent. At La Zorra (Upside-Down Rice) restaurant, you'll find different types, with seafood, fish, and vegan options, Valencian paella, and two essential rice dishes to fully understand La Zorra's rice art: monkfish cheek with red shrimp, and turbot. These rice dishes are also included in a lunch menu for Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays for €36 per person. You can also choose from starters such as salads, croquettes, or hummus, or fried potatoes with egg and crystalline shrimp, one of the most popular dishes. The menu includes up to seven different rice dishes to choose from, some of which (especially the seafood ones) are very tasty. At the helm of La Zorra is Álvaro Mokobodzki, a true foodie and culinary enthusiast, who has transformed the restaurant on Sitges's seafront promenade into an oasis of good food.
To taste the local recipes and the best products of Sitges
Chef Valentí Mongay, entrepreneur and creative, works hard to enhance local produce. and seasonal. With honest cooking, he makes delicious dishes such as "three coastal fish with three different cooking methods," mackerel with fennel [see it in the photo], which you'll find on the autumn menu. For main courses, you'll also find magret or lamb shank, and for dessert, go for the chocolate mousse—a sure way to make you happy. Cocina Sitges is located on one of the town's pretty streets, Sant Bonaventura.
A tapas bar that changes every week
In addition to embroidering the same nems, the recipe for Vietnamese spring rolls that gives its name to the tapas bar located on Isla de Cuba Street, you will also find attractive salads (such as endives with pil pil of piquillo peppers, coconut and tamarind), cod, anchovies... And roast beef lovers will find something to die for, because Nems prepares it with pickles, radishes, and sesame seeds. The tapas, all between €6 and €9, change weekly. So the best recommendation is to go and let the waiters sing your heart out.
Tapas with success and at a very good price
It's the most prized and beloved bar in Sitges, the meeting place for eating, drinking, and chatting. The tapas are renowned throughout the town and also in Catalonia, as evidenced by the posters hanging on the walls, which list the awards they've won year after year. Choosing is a difficult task, but you definitely have to try the bravas, which you don't need to ask the owners how they prepare because they won't tell you. Other tapas worth trying include the McCables: mini-burgers with Brie cheese and green pepper; fried fish; chistorra sausage with puff pastry; Roman-style calamari; and potato omelet with onion. There are many more. And best of all, the history of the bar: opened by the Andreu family, Siscu Andreu was in charge in the 1960s, and after retiring, his two sons (Francisco and Manel) took a radical turn in their lives and became entrepreneurs. They've been there since 2003... and for many years to come!
Traditional cuisine with lots of flavor
Located in the heart of Sitges, it has over fifty years of history and stands out at first glance for the roasted chickens that are grilled right outside the door. Inside, in a traditional atmosphere, the menu offers so many options that it will be very difficult to choose. Salads, eggs, omelets, rabbit, pork, lamb, pizzas, pastas and risottos, grilled meat, cod, chicken... The list goes on. They also offer a daily lunch menu, Monday through Friday, for €16.50. And if you like all the dishes and can't decide, ask Zuleima Capo, the director of La Oca Restaurant, which won the 2022 award for artistic culinary tradition at the Donat Festival organized by the El Prado Society.
The bravas, the 'micuit' and the malvasía of Sitges
Chef Òscar Massó leads a kitchen that highlights bravas, yes, but also many other dishes with intense flavor. Lovers of unusual pairings will find the micuit foie gras with Sitges Malvasia and the false risotto with grilled scallops. The meat dishes (take note of the muffins (Iberian jowl) are top-notch, as are the vegetables (pay attention to the smoked eggplant with kimchi). And, for dessert, the chocolate-filled chucho with coffee cream and Baileys ice cream.
The Garraf served on a plate and in a glass
Sandra Campillo (in the kitchen) and Paola Riveros (owner) run La Pícara restaurant, which showcases local produce. On the menu, you'll find the best local wines (a must-try is the wines from Hospital de Sitges, made with the local Malvasia variety) and from the region (pay attention to the wines from Can Ràfols del Caus, Viladellops, Vega de Ribes, and many others). And for lunch, try creative tapas like (when in season) artichokes, which have taken off at the top of their game. Or some of the dishes that won the 2022 and 2023 Women's Festival: cod fritters with rosemary and squid stuffed with shrimp.
Traditional cuisine on the Paseo de la Ribera
On the Paseo de la Ribera, next to the Punta church dedicated to Saint Bartholomew and Saint Thecla, is La Fragata restaurant. Marian, a new generation of the family, is at the helm. She prepares rice dishes, meat dishes, and especially a stewed cuttlefish with potato puff pastry. A restaurant serving traditional cuisine, perfect for cozying up with a tablecloth and enjoying a hearty feast.
