BarcelonaThe Catalan government's Department of Business and Labor has authorized a temporary layoff plan (ERTE) for 458 workers from the temporary employment agency (ETT) Gctplus who worked at a large slaughterhouse in Osona (Barcelona) due to the African swine fever (ASF) crisis, according to reports. The Newspaper And the ARA has been able to confirm this. Therefore, the Catalan administration accepts the objective cause of force majeure alleged by the company, after the four companies for which these employees worked in Santa Eugenia de Berga notified them of their dismissal.

It should be noted that, for now, African swine fever has only been detected in dead wild boars and has not spread to any farm animals. These employees affected by the temporary layoff were hired by the temporary employment agency Gctplus, which had assigned them to other companies owned by Grupo Jorge, such as Le Porc Gourmet, Rivasam, Productos Porcinos Secundarios, and MarcJoan. This is the only case the Department of Labor has received so far related to the ASF outbreak in Catalonia.

The Le Porc Gourmet slaughterhouse already announced this workforce adjustment a few days after the presence of the swine disease in Catalonia was reported. As also explained The NewspaperThen about 300 workers were suspended from employment and pay and the company assured that the measure was justified by the initial effects of the veto on exports to some countries outside the European Union.
