BarcelonaCatalonia closed the month of June with 2,142 new companies. According to provisional data on the formation of commercial companies from the National Institute of Statistics, the Principality increased new business activity by 9.8% year-on-year, after a June 2025 that was already close to historical records. In fact, according to INE records, this is the best June in terms of the inauguration of new companies in the historical series, with data available since 2008, and the first time the country has exceeded 2,000 business formations in this month.

To constitute these more than 2,100 companies, a total capital of approximately 45.8 million euros was subscribed, a substantial decrease compared to June 2025, when nearly 113.7 million euros were declared to create new commercial companies. In fact, this is the lowest paid-in capital figure since 2020, during the pandemic.

With this data, Catalonia breaks two consecutive months of year-on-year decreases in business creation, with negative figures in both May and April. Business dissolutions also accelerated, it should be said: according to the INE, 143 businesses closed their doors, 20.2% more than a year earlier. Of these dissolutions, 95 were voluntary, while only 9 were reported due to mergers with other companies, and 39 declared "other reasons".

Spanish records

State-wide data, according to INE records, also reached record highs for the month of June in 2026. Specifically, throughout the Spanish territory, 11,153 companies were established in the sixth month of the year, the highest figure since 2007. As in the Catalan case, the State breaks the downward trend, after having chained two months of year-on-year declines with the figures from May and April.

Also in line with the Catalan analysis, the capital subscribed for the incorporation of new commercial companies in the State has fallen sharply compared to the same month in 2025 – although not as much as in the Principality–: it stood, according to the statistical institute, at 344 million euros, 22.2% less year-on-year.

Regarding the dissolution of companies, it accelerated by 14.6% year-on-year, up to 1,814 businesses that had to close their doors. Of the total, 1,520 closed voluntarily, while a hundred declared some type of merger and 193 disappeared for other reasons.
