Ramon Alsina will succeed his father in the presidency of BonÀrea
The Guissona corporation will invest 121 million in twenty new stores in 2026
BarcelonaBonÀrea Corporació has completed the transition in its executive leadership. On May 28, the board of directors of the large consumer chain will vote on the appointment of the current CEO, Ramon Alsina, as president. Alsina will succeed his father, the company's founder, Jaume Alsina. This was decided on Thursday by the general shareholders' meeting, which also granted the outgoing president honorary presidency.
With this decision, Jaume Alsina will end a tenure that has lasted more than six decades, and which has brought the Guissona group (from La Segarra) to a record turnover of over 2.8 billion euros in 2025. As detailed in a statement, the handover is part of the beginning of a "new institutional phase".
The board also approved with a large majority the results of the past fiscal year, the first in the history of the supermarket chain to exceed 100 million euros in profit. The still-serving CEO, during the presentation of the accounting report, celebrated the "solidity of the business model" of BonÀrea, which "allows for managing the entire value chain, gaining efficiency, and offering quality products at the best price".
Increase in investments
The shareholders of the Catalan group have also been informed of a new investment package for 2026, more ambitious than the one they closed last year. The company announced on Thursday its intention to finance projects worth 121 million euros in the current year, about 18 million more than the amount mobilized in 2025.
The new investment portfolio will be used to acquire and renovate several premises dedicated to setting up BonÀrea stores. Of the total disbursement, 29 million will be used to open twenty new supermarkets, and to relocate or expand fifteen already operational establishments. The planned operations will add 7,000 square meters of commercial space to the group's store network.
The local food company closed 2025 with 612 points of sale open in the various territories where it operates – in Catalonia, but also in the Valencian Community or Aragon, among other areas of the State –. With the new locations planned for 2026, BonÀrea's sales network would exceed 630 operational points.
In addition to new openings, the food corporation will dedicate more than 20 million euros to continue developing the Épila food complex in Aragon. Specifically, it will finance the launch of the liquid facilities, complete the structures of the logistics warehouse, and begin construction of the new plant for pet food. Animal feed has been gaining weight over the years, and in 2025 it already invoiced nearly 480 million euros. In fact, the construction of a new feed warehouse in Lleida will also be planned during the year.
They will also dedicate 25 million euros to automate and improve various production lines at the Guissona food center, and the engineering department will receive an allocation of fifteen million euros to launch between six and eight new service stations.
