An Ebro employee dies while working at the car factory in the Zona Franca.
This is the second fatal workplace accident to occur at the former Nissan facility this year.

This is the second workplace accident to occur at the factory shared by Ebro and the Chinese company Chery this year. In this sense, López has warned that these types of situations worsen in summer, "since with heat waves and a relaxation of prevention and control, the risk greatly increases." "It is necessary that the corresponding measures be taken without delay to put an end to this scourge; it must be done urgently, because our lives are at stake," assured the leader of CCOO in Catalonia.
Ebro regrets the accident
For its part, Ebro mourned the death of its worker in a statement. "It is with deep sorrow that we report the death of an Ebro Factory worker yesterday, during the planned work stoppage in August at the Zona Franca plant in Barcelona," the automotive company explained. The company reiterated its "full commitment to safety and prevention of occupational hazards" and stated that it activated the emergency protocol immediately after the incident. It also extended its condolences to the deceased's family and colleagues. Ebro and the Chinese company Chery joined forces to get things moving again. The former Nissan lines, where some of the Spanish firm's models have been manufactured since November. The plant now employs around 800 workers.
In the first half of 2025, 39 people have already lost their lives in an accident during their workday in Catalonia, eight more than in the same period last year, according to data published by the Department of Labor of the Generalitat.
