Astrid of Norway dies fifteen days after her brother, King Harald V

Astrid has died two days after the state funeral of her brother, Harald V, which she still attended on Wednesday, and two weeks after he died, on August 28, at the age of 89. It had only been a day since Norway had finished its official days of mourning. King Haakon VIII, who inherited the crown automatically when his father died, has decided that the flags at the royal palace will be lowered to half-mast again for his aunt this Friday. "Throughout her long life, she has represented the royal house in a warm and responsible way. Her death is a great loss for all of us. We will miss her," declared Haakon in a statement. For fourteen years, from 1954 to 1968, Princess Astrid was the first lady of the country, after the crown princess, her mother, Marta, died when she was 22 years old. She continued to serve the crown throughout her life. Last May, she still participated in two official acts, but was later admitted to the hospital due to heart problems.

These are intense days for the Norwegian royal house because this Friday it also became known that the son of the new queen, Mette-Marit, Marius Borg Hoiby, will face a new judicial process after the Court of Appeal accepted the appeal against the sentence handed down in June, when he was sentenced to four years in prison for several crimes, including two cases of rape.
