GasGas will stop manufacturing motorcycles at its Terrassa plant and will now produce trial motorcycles and motorcycles geared toward intensive off-road use at KTM's central factory—the brand's parent company—in Mattighofen, northern Austria. It's worth remembering that this decision comes just five years after KTM acquired the GasGas brand and invested €5.7 million in upgrading the Terrassa plant where GasGas motorcycles have been manufactured for the past five years.

The Terrassa factory covers a total of 1,900 square meters and is designed to accommodate a production of around 5,000 motorcycles per year. It currently employs a total of 300 people, of whom 20 are unsecured, according to company sources. GasGas is a Catalan brand specializing in the production of trial motorcycles, founded in 1985, which suffered suspension of payments and bankruptcy in 2015, just before being bought by KTM. The GasGas plant in Terrassa was inaugurated in October 2022 and received direct aid of around 500,000 euros from the Generalitat of Catalonia with the aim of establishing the brand and generating impact and jobs in the co-capital of the Vallès Occidental.

But bad luck has followed GasGas, and last year it was KTM parent company, which entered into bankruptcy proceedings, and the group's new owners, the Indian Bajaj Group, have decided to restructure the brand's business lines, ultimately leading to the decision to move GasGas production to Austria. The continuity of the Terrassa plant seems assured, as KTM has confirmed that Husqvarna and MV Augusta brand motorcycles, also part of the KTM industrial group, will continue to be manufactured.

Farewell to the official racing team

The delicate industrial position of KTM and GasGas has led to the announcement of the withdrawal of the competition division as an official team from the World and Spanish Trial Championships as of January 1, 2026. It's worth remembering that GasGas and its star rider, Jaime Bustos, are the great alternative to the dominance of Montesa and the already arriving riders.

GasGas will, however, continue to support private riders and teams that wish to continue competing as customer teams of the brand, taking advantage of its motorcycles and the tuning experience accumulated over recent years.
