Catalonia leads the ranking of car thefts in Spain during the first months of 2025.
Vehicle thefts in Catalonia increased by 6.2% compared to 2024 during the first quarter of the year.

Once again, Catalonia leads the national ranking of car thefts, according to data published by the Ministry of the Interior.
Despite fewer registered and registered cars in Catalonia than in Madrid, the gap with the Spanish capital is widening. While Madrid maintains stable theft rates (and has even managed to reduce them), Catalonia has seen a 6.2% increase in stolen vehicles compared to 2024.

Regarding makes and models, the most stolen cars in Spain during the first three months of 2025 were Seat, with 544 stolen units; Peugeot, with 389; and Volkswagen, with 364. This figure is explained by the greater presence of these brands on the streets throughout Spain and by the possibility of reselling the models or their parts as spares due to high demand.
Finally, it's worth noting that the figures provided by the Ministry of the Interior suggest the existence of organized gangs specializing in car theft in Catalonia. The comparison with the Basque Country is striking, as the total number of stolen cars is lower than in autonomous communities with smaller populations and a smaller vehicle fleet, such as Múltiple.
