Game of musical chairs in the Catalan technology sector
Indra seeks CEO after dismissing De los Mozos
Musical chairs in the Catalan technology sector. The former CEO of Cellnex – the main telecommunications tower company –, Tobías Martínez, will move to lead Openchip, while Pedro Mier will take over the direction of Open Cosmos. Furthermore, the president of Indra, Àngel Simón, continues with the revolution at the company's top and is already looking for a new CEO, who will possibly be announced this Tuesday, after dismissing José Vicente de los Mozos – seemingly in agreement with the Spanish government –, who is the main shareholder of the technology and defense company.
Tobías Martínez
President of Openchip
Tobías Martínez, who was the CEO of Cellnex, assumes the position of president of Openchip replacing Carlos Kinder, as advanced by La Vanguardia. The move occurs amid a process of change within the company.
(SoC) high performance based on RISC‑V, designed internally, along with innovative software Openchip is a European systems company that integrates high-performance accelerators and chip systems (SoC) based on RISC‑V, designed internally, along with innovative full-stack software, and creates large-scale computing systems for AI and supercomputing (HPC), as the company itself explains. They drive innovation and autonomous development to ensure European digital sovereignty, with security, scalability, and sustainability as pillars.
Pedro Mier
President of Open Cosmos in Spain
Open Cosmos, a satellite manufacturing and space infrastructure company, has appointed Pedro Mier as its new president in Spain, with the aim of strengthening the company's strategic structure and consolidating its role within the space and technological ecosystem in Spain and Europe. Mier's arrival responds to Open Cosmos's desire to incorporate profiles with a solid track record and recognition, with the aim of reinforcing its positioning in Spain and consolidating collaboration with the main players in the industrial, technological, and institutional ecosystem, in a context of growing momentum in the space sector and the development of associated industrial capabilities, the company indicates.
Mier has a prestigious career in the sector. Distinguished as Engineer of the Year by the Official College of Telecommunications Engineers (COIT) and in recent years president of Ametic (the main association of digital companies in Spain), he has decades of experience at the helm of technology companies, such as Mier Comunicaciones. He has also been founder and president of ProEspacio (Spanish Association of Companies in the Space Sector) and AENTEC (Spanish Association of New Technologies). His profound knowledge of satellite infrastructures, digitalization, and telecommunications fits perfectly with Open Cosmos's core business.
From his new position, Mier will drive Open Cosmos's activity in Spain, promoting the identification of new business opportunities, the acceleration of strategic collaborations, and the strengthening of dialogue with the main actors in the ecosystem. Likewise, the profile will contribute to consolidating the dialogue with the government of Spain, the Spanish Space Agency (AEE), and European institutions.
The arrival of Mier takes place in a context of intense activity for Open Cosmos in Spanish territory to promote the execution of strategic projects in the field of technological sovereignty, among which the Atlantic Constellation stands out, an ambitious program promoted by Spain and Portugal that will contribute to strengthening European Earth observation capabilities. Thus, the Spanish component (ESCA) is led and coordinated by Open Cosmos, which assumes the design and construction of the eight Spanish satellites, out of a total of 16 that make up the project. Mier's new role will be very important to strengthen the company's presence in the Catalan technological hub, where Open Cosmos has already led successful missions within the framework of the Generalitat's NewSpace strategy.

Until the general meeting, De los Mozos will still exercise his duties as CEO with the aim of "facilitating" the transition process at the company, Indra indicated.
