José Ignacio Goirigolzarri

Independent Director of Inditex

The fashion giant founded by Amancio Ortega does not renounce its link with the financial world in the renewal of the board of directors that the general shareholders' meeting of 2026, held this week, had to approve: the company's investors ratified on Tuesday the appointment of the former president of CaixaBank, José Ignacio Goirigolzarri, as a new independent director. Goirigolzarri takes over from another historical figure in the Spanish credit sector: Rodrigo Echenique. The multinational thus confirms an appointment that had already been announced at the beginning of June.

In her speech during the shareholders' meeting, the non-executive chairwoman of Inditex, Marta Ortega, valued Echenique's "12 years of rigor, dedication and commitment" on the board of directors. The executive thanked the director's work, of whom she assured that he "is part of the shared history" of the textile company. In addition to Goirigolzarri's entry, shareholders ratified the mandate of the board of directors, including the chairwoman and the CEO, Óscar García Maceiras. The meeting also approved increases in directors' remuneration, in view of the "excellent results" achieved in a "complex macroeconomic context".

He reached this position after holding various roles within both brands; as well as within the Volkswagen group in general, and in other relevant companies in the sector such as Renault. According to the executive, Yomovo "is born with the ambition to lead new mobility in Spain". For their part, the company's CEOs, Agustí Garcia and Josep Pont, have considered Fondevilla's experience "key" to "consolidate Yomovo as one of the major mobility groups" in the State.
