In an interview yesterday in La Vanguardia, the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo stated that Pedro Sánchez is delaying the application of the amnesty to Carles Puigdemont. It is not new. Before, Feijóo had already said that Sánchez has deceived Carles Puigdemont with the amnesty law.

Naturally, Feijóo is not defending Puigdemont, whom he considers a fugitive from justice, nor is he demanding that the amnesty law, which he has attacked with all available resources, be applied once and for all. He even says that perhaps what happened was a mix between being deceived and letting himself be deceived. In summary, Feijóo is singing siren songs to Junts because he needs to expand his base of possible partners like bread. And the most paradoxical thing is: Feijóo says what Puigdemont and Junqueras feel.

However, in any case, what Feijóo is doing is recalling an evidence: Puigdemont gave the decisive votes to invest Sánchez as president in the summer of 2023, it is now spring 2026 and Puigdemont is still in Waterloo. Neither Comín nor Puig have been able to return, and Junqueras, Romeva, Turull, and Bassa remain disqualified. Sánchez can always say that he does not control the timing of justice, neither European nor Spanish, and that even the Spanish one is persecuting him, but it is evident that the last thing Sánchez needed in this round of elections in Extremadura, Aragón, Castille and León, and, above all, in Andalusia, is President Puigdemont returning to Catalonia. It suits him fine that the amnesty is delayed. And if you talk to Puigdemont, to Junqueras, and to any of the other disqualified politicians, beyond denouncing the judicial "a por ellos!", they do not see in Sánchez any will to move in favor of the amnesty. Not with the amnesty nor with anything else, because it has been months since Junts declared the conversations they were holding with the PSOE in Switzerland over.

Junqueras also feels he is the subject of a delaying tactic, and tells everyone who asks him that he already knows this will take a long time, but Esquerra and PSOE share political space. On the other hand, for Puigdemont, it has long been the case that the PSOE always ends up being the same as the PP, with the difference that the PP is direct and the PSOE puts on a good face, when it does. Nevertheless, the capacity to influence that the coup of seven deputies represented was too tempting to let it slip away. All this impacts Junts much more than Esquerra, because Esquerra is an almost centenarian party and Junts is a work of Puigdemont, Puigdemont is much more than the president of a party, he is the symbol, even though he is the first to be aware that the passage of time wears down even symbols. Time and distance wear down and blur.

Good morning.
