BarcelonaWe are now on the eve of Sant Jordi's Day, the most anticipated and massive cultural event of the year in Catalonia, which fills the streets all over the country with people to see the rose and book stalls. An event full of identity and emotions that no one wants to miss. Therefore, the weather forecast takes on special relevance, to know if we can enjoy the outdoors on this day without the rain spoiling it. Will it rain this Sant Jordi? Will we have to grab an umbrella or sunglasses?

It should be said that we are in spring, a season marked by variability in the sky. In fact, in these preceding days we have been having afternoon showers and thunderstorms in some regions, a typically spring instability situation. Last year the weather respected the day, but everyone still remembers Sant Jordi's Day in 2022, when a spell of heavy thunderstorms and hailstones caused havoc in many towns, and even caused material damage to numerous stalls and books. Or in 2024, when we experienced one of the coldest Sant Jordi's Days on record, nothing like the atypical heat we are having this April.

Will any of these scenarios be repeated this year? The maps are optimistic and indicate that, overall, we will be able to enjoy this beautiful day without much damage, although the instability will not completely disappear. Let's try to break down what the different weather models say.

Quite profitable weather

With the current maps, it seems that this Sant Jordi will not rain in the vast majority of regions and we will be mostly under the effects of high pressure, but there will be some exceptions. Some afternoon showers or thunderstorms will be repeated in the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees. Therefore, from midday onwards, rain may cause trouble in these areas, without ruling out some local hailstorms. They will be irregular and short-lived phenomena.

Some meteorological models indicate that during the early hours of the morning there may be low clouds and even some scattered drizzles accompanied by mud, mainly in the regions of Barcelona, Girona and Tarragona. A situation that is still unclear, but which would not continue for the rest of the day, with plenty of sun in general and haze due to the presence of suspended dust. In short, it will be a profitable day in a large part of the country.

Temporary drop in temperatures

This week we are under the effects of a warm air mass coming from North Africa. The counter-clockwise rotation of a low-pressure system located west of the Peninsula is responsible for pushing these southerly winds towards our area, with an excessively warm atmosphere for this time of year.

However, precisely for Sant Jordi, thermometers will take a step back and mercury will not shoot up so much in the middle of the day, with more moderate heat. In addition, the cooler wind from the northeast to the east will strengthen along the coast, which will help to lower the thermometers.

Therefore, we will no longer reach 30 ºC, with most maximums between 22 ºC and 27 ºC, even lower in mountainous areas and by the sea. Therefore, the atypical late spring atmosphere we have been experiencing in recent days will ease for Sant Jordi, which will help us not to feel so hot while walking through the streets.
