There is no clear end in sight to that era, more British than Mediterranean.
Atlantic fronts will continue to shape the weather in the coming days, with a bit of everything.
BarcelonaWe leave behind a Wednesday that was decidedly cold and wintry, with gusty winds in some areas and another round of light showers concentrated only in the southern half of the country. The most notable rainfall was 5 liters per square meter in Els Ports, where it snowed above about 700 meters. These were the effects of the storm. Kristinwhich in the rest of the Peninsula has caused a real storm of snow, rain, strong wind and rough seas. It has snowed in the city of Madrid, causing serious road disruptions.
Atlantic storms will continue unabated for the next few days, bringing new fronts that will arrive weakened but will keep the weather highly changeable and unpredictable. This will be a period of stark contrasts in just a few hours, more typical of areas like the UK than the Mediterranean. No new widespread rain is expected, but some areas will experience showers, accompanied by periods of wind, highly variable skies, and a rollercoaster of temperatures.
Thursday: changeable weather
The weather will remain changeable and variable this Thursday. During the early morning hours, the sky will be quite cloudy overall. Some light and scattered showers are expected in the west and southern half of the country, but these are unlikely to reach the northeast. Overall, little precipitation is expected, with the snow level fluctuating between 1,000 and 1,200 meters. Rainfall is also expected throughout the day in the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands.
In Catalonia, only a few showers will remain in the afternoon, south of the Ebro River and in the Pyrenees of Lleida, with the snow level around 1,600 meters. It will be sunnier and calmer in the rest of the country. Winds will be moderate, blowing from the west to the mistral, stronger in the Valencian Community and the southern Balearic Islands, where the storm could be particularly severe, especially overnight. Aemet (the Spanish State Meteorological Agency) has several weather alerts in place.
Early in the morning, minimum temperatures will reach their lowest point, so you'll need to bundle up, but maximum temperatures will rise, and by midday it won't be as cold as Wednesday. Many temperatures are expected to be between 10 and 15 °C, even higher in the south.
New Atlantic fronts
This variability will continue throughout the rest of the week due to the passage of new, weakened Atlantic fronts. No significant rainfall is expected, but the sky will remain changeable, with some showers arriving in the Ponent region and the Lleida Pyrenees. These showers will cross the country from west to east between Friday night and Saturday morning. The wind will remain intermittent, with the strongest gusts expected on Saturday, accompanied by more snow in the Pyrenees. Temperatures will continue to fluctuate due to the constantly changing wind direction. There is no clear end in sight to this unsettled and changeable weather pattern.
