The weather

The cooling will still take a few days to arrive

The heat will continue to be intense, waiting for next week the temperatures to drop with more eagerness

26/06/2026 - 07:24 h.

Temperatures dropped yesterday inland, and for the first time this week, 40 ºC were no longer reached anywhere. Only 38ºC were exceeded in Ponent as the highest figures of the day. On the other hand, in parts of the coast and pre-coast, this decrease was not noticed. Technically, we have left the heatwave behind, but the heat remains intense and fully summery, with heavy mugginess on the coast and values clearly above usual for this time of year. In fact, tonight has been warmer than previous ones, with tropical lows in many places and scorching in some coastal spots, highlighting the 26.8 ºC minimum in Barcelona's Raval neighborhood.

The extraordinary and prolonged gust of warm air from North Africa continues to affect our country and part of Europe, with the main event currently in the center of the continent, after leaving many heat records in a month of June in several countries. In the coming days, thermometers will remain similar and clearly above average, with sun and calm. But maps are showing a drop in thermometers for next week. Therefore, it seems that July could start with a more breathable atmosphere, both day and night.

Friday: intense heat without extremes

Temperatures will remain very similar to Thursday's this Friday. The night has been generally mild to warm, with cooler temperatures in mountainous areas. Tropical lows have recurred in many places, including inland areas, while in densely populated coastal areas - especially in the city of Barcelona - there have been torrid lows, above 25 ºC.

Maximums will again exceed 30 ºC on the coast, where it will be markedly muggy. Inland, many values of 34 ºC to 38 ºC will recur, the highest in Ponent and the Ebro valley. All this with sun, suspended dust, and some decorative touch of thin clouds. In principle, no afternoon showers are expected in the Pyrenees.

Weekend still very warm

Thermometers will undergo few changes over the weekend: it will be still very hot with values clearly above the average. However, it seems that reaching the 40 ºC mark again will be very difficult. All this with sun and only a few showers on Sunday afternoon in the Pyrenees.

However, forecasts indicate that next week thermometers will start dropping more significantly, and from Tuesday or Wednesday we could have values a little more normalized for the dates. Therefore, it seems that the more usual and breathable summer atmosphere would arrive coinciding with the first days of July. A situation still a bit uncertain that we will have to specify, as the maps do not quite agree on this.
