The first weekend of spring is here to take advantage of, but it will end with changes.
Sunshine and calm will prevail, with some showers expected to reappear from Sunday afternoon onwards.
Astronomical spring arrived this Friday at 3:46 PM, bringing with it the return of the sun and a sense of calm. There was also a marked temperature contrast between the cold and frosty mornings and the more pronounced mildness at midday. And this calm will continue through the first weekend of spring. A pleasant Saturday awaits us, with few exceptions, and uniform temperatures across the region. Sunday will be enjoyable, but from the afternoon onwards, the approach of a small pocket of cold air will bring renewed instability. From then on, some showers are expected in the northeast and the Pyrenees, which will spread throughout the night.
Saturday: a day to make the most of
The first day of the weekend will be marked by stability and absolute calm. Sunshine will generally prevail, with only a few wisps of high, thin clouds. There will also be low clouds in the Terres de l'Ebre region during the morning, as well as morning fog in the plains and inland valleys. Some cloud cover will develop in the Pyrenees during the afternoon, but beyond a few isolated showers, these are not expected to have much impact.
The exception will be the Valencian Community, where cloud cover will remain abundant and some light, scattered showers or drizzles are expected between the Valencia and Alicante regions. There will also be cloud cover without rain in the Pitiusas Islands and Mallorca. Temperatures will remain similar, with a contrast between the morning chill and the mildness at midday. However, temperatures will remain relatively mild, with most highs between 15 and 20°C.
Sunday: waiting for a change in the weather
For much of Sunday, calm conditions will prevail, with plenty of sunshine across most areas. However, in the afternoon, a pocket of cold air will bring cloud cover to the Pyrenees and the northeast, with the first showers appearing in these regions. As the day progresses, these showers will spread, and by the end of the day, they could affect the northern half of the Barcelona region. Isolated thunderstorms with hail are possible. During Sunday night and into the early hours of Monday, showers are expected in some areas of Girona and Barcelona, and precipitation is forecast for the Pyrenees, particularly on the northern slopes. The snow level will descend from the initial 1,600 meters to 1,200 meters, or locally lower overnight. Some isolated showers are also possible along other coastal areas until Monday morning. Temperatures will rise slightly on Sunday and be milder at midday, but will begin to drop in the Pyrenees.
Weather changing next week
Next week looks set to bring typical unpredictable spring weather, with a bit of everything. On Monday, northerly winds will blow in the eastern and southern regions, bringing a drop in temperatures, but the rain will clear up. Between Tuesday and Wednesday, temperatures will rise significantly, making for pleasant and enjoyable days. However, a sudden change in the weather is possible on Thursday, with colder temperatures and snow in the Pyrenees, accompanied by a significant drop in the snow level. This situation remains uncertain and will need to be monitored closely.
