A weekend of two faces: today more sun; tomorrow, gray skies, showers and colder weather

BarcelonaThe last weekend of November will begin calmly, although cloud cover will increase and become more abundant in the afternoon, especially in the north. However, no precipitation is expected anywhere today. These high, thin clouds will be the prelude to a cold front that will bring more snow to the Pyrenees on Sunday, showers to several regions, wind to both ends of the territory, and a more wintry feel once again.

Saturday: a usable day, but with increasing cloud cover

We woke up to cold weather and frost in several inland areas, although temperatures have generally been trending upwards. In the western part of Catalonia, central Catalonia, and inland Girona, thermometers have ranged between -1°C and -3°C. Notable examples include -3°C in Les Borges Blanques, -2°C in Lleida and Girona, and -2°C in Vall d'en Bas. Northwest and west winds have kept temperatures above 8°C in Montserrat and above 12°C in Portbou. As for the highs, the temperature rise will be particularly noticeable in the northeast and in areas of the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees. Therefore, the cold will be more moderate. Thermometers will climb a few degrees higher, with greater warmth in the middle of the day. Temperatures are expected to range from 13°C to 18°C, with slightly higher values in the south. It will be a pleasant day, with sunshine interspersed with bands of high, thin clouds. Cloud cover will generally increase from the afternoon onwards, becoming more prevalent in the northern half of the country. However, no precipitation is expected anywhere. Southerly winds will strengthen slightly and temporarily in the afternoon, particularly between the coasts of Barcelona and Girona.

Sunday: Change in weather and scattered showers

The passage of a cold front will bring changes on the last day of the weekend. Cloud cover will generally increase, and between the early hours of the morning and the early afternoon, snow will fall in the Pyrenees, especially on the northern slopes. The snow level will descend from the initial 1,500 meters to 1,300 meters by midday, and even further in the afternoon. This snowfall will be less significant than recent ones and at higher elevations, but caution is advised on the roads if traveling to the Pyrenees and the ski resorts that are opening for the season. On the northern slopes and in the western Pyrenees, around 5 cm of new snow may accumulate at mid-elevations, with greater accumulations at the highest elevations. Regarding avalanche risk, above 2,200 meters, it is moderate (level 2 out of 5) in the Aran Valley and the northern part of the Pallaresa region.

Scattered and generally light showers will arrive in the rest of the country. They will begin in the early morning hours in the west, and as the day progresses, they could affect practically any area. According to current weather maps, they are less likely in the northeast. Some showers are also expected in the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands. The mistral and tramontana winds will pick up again and blow strongly in the south and in the Empordà region. Temperatures will gradually decrease, with a more wintry midday and many minimum temperatures recorded in the late evening. No frost is expected during the early hours of Sunday (except for some light frosts in certain valleys and high mountain areas). In the Pyrenean valleys, temperatures will generally hover around 0°C, and inland they will remain around 2°C. On the coast, temperatures will not fall below 10°C. Maximum temperatures, on the other hand, will range between 15°C and 17°C, and will reach only 11°C in the western part of the country. It will be cold due to the lack of sunlight and high humidity. On Monday and Tuesday, it will be even colder, with frost inland and, especially, in the Pyrenees, where temperatures will again reach midwinter levels (minimums in the valleys around -6°C). Cold, wintry conditions will also prevail in the rest of the region (minimums of 0°C inland and 3°C on the coast).

A changeable week, with a new front on Tuesday

The weather will continue to change next week, with new Atlantic fronts bringing varying amounts of precipitation, especially in the Pyrenees, with more snow at mid and high elevations. Temperatures will fluctuate, but will remain at or below average. A more or less active front will bring further showers between Tuesday and Wednesday, with light amounts spread across the region. The snow level will remain low, around 1000 meters.

The weather will remain cold, especially in the high mountains. From Thursday onwards, conditions will improve, with calmer weather and temperatures that will continue to drop, particularly during the early mornings, which will remain cold.
