Spring and warm Easter Monday

BarcelonaThe anticyclone keeps the Atlantic fronts at bay and its warm ridge causes the thermometer to rise sharply during the day. This Sunday, for example, it reached almost 30 °C in Ponent, with 29.5 °C recorded in Alcarràs. It was one of the highest readings for an April 5th at this observatory, although the absolute record for the month was not broken, recorded on April 28, 2023, with 31.7 °C. This same heat favored the growth of convective clouds in mountainous areas which left some showers in the Pyrenees (1.5 l/m² in Ulldeter and 0.5 l/m² in Puigcerdà).

The atmosphere will remain spring-like in our territory and we will enjoy a Mona de Pascua day with temperatures more typical of May than early April. Only a slight change is expected at the end of the week, with the approach of a front that could bring showers to the Pyrenees and a slightly cooler atmosphere.

Bright and warm Easter Monday

Today we can eat the mona with radiant sun and an advanced spring temperature. Many highs of 20 °C to 25 °C are expected, but in points of the pre-littoral and interior these figures will be exceeded and 28 °C will be exceeded again in Ponent. The thermometers will be more restrained on the coast due to the influence of the sea, whose water is still cold. Maritime fogs (advection) will form on the Costa Brava and the Ebro Delta, especially in the morning or towards the evening. All this with a thermal contrast between day and night (in some inland observatories there will be a thermal oscillation of more than 25 degrees).

During the afternoon, evolving clouds will develop in the northernmost Pyrenees, but they are not expected to bring precipitation. In any case, a few drizzles might fall north of Ripollès and Cerdanya. In the rest of the territory, only some thin, harmless clouds will be visible. From midday onwards, the wind will blow from the south, light to moderate everywhere, but with strong gusts in the afternoon along the northern coast, in Terres de l'Ebre, and in Ponent. By the end of the day, it will ease, except on the Costa Brava, where it will still blow with some moderate gusts.

Between Wednesday and Thursday, the temperature will again reach its peak inland, especially in Ponent, where it could reach up to 30 °C. On the coast, it will remain around 22 °C, with a cooler atmosphere due to the sea effect. Towards the end of the week, the weather could change and a front might arrive, although, at the moment, it does not appear very active. We will have to keep monitoring it.
