We take advantage of the break: intense heat will return this week
Temperatures will again brush 40 ºC in Ponent mid-week
BarcelonaWe leave behind a weekend marked by the change in air masses that has swept away the warm bubble and suspended African dust, with the entry of cold at altitude. All this has caused a clear cooling, as well as strong storms in various regions, especially during Saturday and early Sunday morning. A much more comfortable atmosphere - with bearable summer heat at midday and cool at night - that will still hold today. But this respite will not continue, as in the coming days a new irruption of warm North African air will push thermometers above average, with the return of intense heat. By mid-week, temperatures will reach 40 ºC again in western Catalonia.
Start raising the temperature
Monday will still maintain bearable heat, with highs between 30 °C and 34 °C inland and lows that have once again clearly remained below 20°C in many places, except on the central and southern coast, where some slightly tropical lows have been repeated. Tuesday will begin to rise in temperature more decisively, but still far from extremes. It will be from Wednesday that thermometers will skyrocket again above average and intense heat will return. A new warm African mass will bring values close to 28°C at 850 hPa (1,500 m). This will reheat the lower and middle layers of the troposphere and will cause the thermometer to rise in the inland plains and in the pre-Pyrenean valleys up to 39°C, reaching or exceeding 40°C in Ponent.
Regarding the state of the sky, this Monday the sky will be clear and only a few low clouds will appear on the central coast or the Costa Daurada. From midday they will dissipate and give way to a sunny afternoon. Only some development clouds are expected in the Pyrenees or Pre-Pyrenees which will no longer cause precipitation. There will be a bit of tramuntana wind early in the morning and also mestral, but it will not be as strong as on Sunday morning, when speeds of up to 90 km/h were reached in Portbou (Alt Empordà). There will be a swell in the morning north of Cap de Creus and a light swell in the rest. No rain is expected anywhere in the coming days.
