More thunderstorms and heavy showers in the west and in the Pyrenees
The storms will be accompanied by hail and large stones
BarcelonaThe Atlantic disturbance located off the coasts of Portugal and Galicia will send a front that will generate unstable weather in our territory. While the morning will be calm, in general, from midday onwards the panorama will change radically and storms will gain ground and move from west to east of the country. Moderate to heavy showers are expected, with the possibility of hail or hailstorms. Very bad news for the market gardens in Ponent, where they may once again suffer the effects of hail on the fruit tree fields.
Stormy Monday with a slight thermal drop in the west
The morning will begin calm and with many clear spells, especially in the eastern half, where the sky will be quite clear with the presence of some low coastal cloud. At first, clouds will already appear in the west and by mid-morning the first showers may fall, initially of weak intensity. The temperature will still be held back early in the morning in the Pyrenees, with lows of 13 °C in the valleys. During the day it will be moderately hot and the thermometer may be below normal in the west, where it will not exceed 29 °C. We will reach 33 °C in Empordà, due to a warmer southwesterly wind, and in the rest of the country we will move between 28 °C and 31 °C. Mid-week, a more marked rise in temperatures is expected and heat peaks of up to 35 °C in the Lleida plain and the Ebre.
As the day progresses, thunderstorms will begin to appear in the western half, affecting the Franja de Ponent, the Lleida plain, the Pre-Pyrenees, the Lleida Pyrenees, and the Ports de Beseit. The probability of downpours and hailstorms is higher in the regions of Alt Urgell, Alta Ribagorça, Cerdanya, Noguera, Pallars Jussà, and Pallars Sobirà. Warnings remain in place for accumulations of 20 l/m2 in half an hour, and these showers will also be accompanied by thunderstorms and phenomena of violent weather, especially hail (large or very large, 5 cm).
Balance of the downpours early Saturday morning:
Saturday dawn thunderstorms discharged strongly offshore and those that hit land left intense downpours. In Baix Penedès, it discharged with great intensity and the showers were torrential. In El Vendrell, for example, they accumulated 146 l/m2, 137 l/m2 in Torredembarra and 109 l/m2 in Calafell.
In some cases, the rain fell with great intensity and discharged more than 40 mm in half an hour. The Torredembarra station measured 54.5 mm in 30 minutes, of which 2.8 mm in 1 minute (a real downpour!).
