More storms and general cooling
The thunderstorms will reactivate again from midday
BarcelonaThe passage of an upper trough has changed the weather in recent hours. Thunderstorms have discharged with intensity due to the generation of large convection clouds fueled by cold air that has dropped from more northerly latitudes. This clash of air masses with very different conditions has contributed to intense showers, accompanied by electrical apparatus, hail, and sleet (for example, yesterday afternoon, in Arbúcies). Until mid-afternoon on Saturday, we had already accumulated up to 35 l/m2 in Sant Llorenç Savall and between 15 and 30 l/m2 around the Montseny massif.
During the night, 13 l/m2 fell in Terrassa, 11 l/m2 in Sant Cugat and Mataró, and, for example, 4 l/m2 in Barcelona (El Raval). During the early morning, electrical storms continued off the coast.
Sunday: unsettled weather and general cooling
Today the weather will change throughout the country, especially regarding temperature. In the early hours of the day there will be lingering clouds and a final shower will fall, but clear spells will open up and the morning will bring respite. The mistral wind will blow with strong gusts in the Camp de Tarragona and Ebro regions, as will the tramuntana, which will stir up a strong swell north of Cape Creus.
Temperatures will (finally!) drop, especially where there has been some rain or thunderstorms. The night has been cooler overall, and tropical lows have been concentrated near the sea. The highs will be significantly curbed, with very bearable heat and far from the extreme values of recent weeks. In parts of the Pyrenees and inland, highs will be between 6 and 11 degrees lower than on Thursday.
Most of the highest highs will range between 27°C and 33°C (in Ponent). In mountain areas, the cool atmosphere will remain all day, and on the coast, the sultriness will also ease.
From midday onwards, evolving clouds will reactivate and showers will again fall in the northeast, mainly. New ones will appear in the afternoon in parts of the Pyrenees and eastern Pre-Pyrenees and between Girona and Barcelona. It is not ruled out that some storms may be locally intense, accompanied by hail or sleet, especially in the sector between Guilleries-Collsacabra, the Montseny massif and southern Baix Empordà. In the evening or at night, they could also reach some points on the coast, such as Maresme or Baix Llobregat.
Starting Monday, the heat returns, but without being extreme
On Monday, the heat will still remain bearable, with highs between 30°C and 34°C (in Ponent) and lows around 22°C on the coast. On Tuesday, temperatures will start to rise, but still far from extremes. It will be from Wednesday onwards that thermometers will skyrocket again above average, and intense heat will return. So, we will have to take advantage of the brief respite we will have these days, especially on the coast, where one can rest a little better during the nights, without so much mugginess.
