BarcelonaThe changeable winter weather of the last few days will come to an abrupt end this long weekend for the Immaculate Conception. Temperatures already rose yesterday and will continue to climb in the coming days, with very mild middays, more moderate cold nights, and values above average for this time of year. The weather is trending towards calm, and we will only see some thin clouds from the very weak Atlantic fronts circulating across the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula.

The presence of an anticyclone will gradually take hold, bringing us some very pleasant holidays to enjoy, with sunshine, fog, and no rain anywhere. All this comes after a few hours with lingering showers on the northern slopes of the Pyrenees, which finally dissipated completely during the early hours of this morning.

Forecast map for this Saturday.

Saturday: clear rise in mercury

Today – the first of three days of festivities for many – will be marked above all by a significant rise in temperatures, both day and night. Visibility has been reduced by some patches of fog which, in several areas of western Catalonia and the Pre-Pyrenees, may persist until midday, maintaining a gray, cold, and damp atmosphere. The cold was more moderate early this morning, and there have been practically no frosts outside the Pyrenees, with only minor frosts in Central Catalonia. However, temperatures still dropped to -2°C in Cardona and -1°C in Girona and Vic. Pont de Suert recorded a low of -3°C. Along the coast, temperatures ranged between 5°C (Viladecans, at the Parc Agrari) and 7°C (Barcelona, at the port). Today, maximum temperatures will jump significantly, and the weather will be suddenly very mild at midday, with many highs of 16°C to 21°C, higher in areas of southern Catalonia, the Valencian Community, and the Balearic Islands.

It will generally be sunny, with some harmless bands of high, thin clouds, throughout this public holiday Saturday. In the morning, there will be some lingering cloud cover in the northern third of the country, and the residual showers from the northern slopes of the Pyrenees that may have occurred in the early hours will not return. The wind will die down completely, and the sea will be slightly choppy. In short, it will be a pleasant day to enjoy.

Forecast map for this Sunday.

Sunday and Monday of absolute calm

The rest of the long weekend will be marked by stability and absolute calm. Sunshine will dominate both tomorrow and the public holiday Monday, with only a few wisps of thin, increasingly scarce clouds. Morning fog and low clouds will return to inland areas, lasting longer periods in the Pla de Lleida region, where it will be cooler. This Sunday, fog will keep temperatures down in the morning in the Ponent region, but when it lifts, highs will reach nearly 15°C in the city of Lleida. In Barcelona and Tarragona, they will reach up to 21°C, and in Girona, up to 17°C. In most of the country, temperatures will remain very high for this time of year, with mild midday temperatures and moderate cold at night. Despite the rising temperatures, the temperature contrast between day and night will be significant. Frosts will be light in the Pyrenean valleys. The high-pressure system will remain for much of next week, and no changes are expected until at least next weekend.
