The mayor who spearheaded the first modernization of Valencia has died.

Ricard Pérez Casado, the socialist mayor of Valencia from 1979 to 1989, has died at the age of 80. During his term, he spearheaded the city's first modernization project and oversaw the construction of the Turia Gardens and the Palau de la Música (Music Palace).
