When AI passes us

I had a really messed up dream last night. I dreamt there were some puppies, and one of them had been enhanced with artificial intelligence. I was terrified and kept thinking: how did we get to this point?

No one disputes that AI is a powerful tool full of possibilities. But using it as support is one thing, and replacing people is quite another.

I recently heard that some doctors are telling patients to have their diets created by ChatGPT. Really? A medical doctor is actually referring a patient to a machine? And all the while, we're being warned about the risks of excessive artificial intelligence use.

There's another reality that hits very close to home for me: our profession. Radio stations already exist using artificial intelligence and cloned voices. And so the question is inevitable: where does that leave the human element? Where does that leave the journalist?

Because the magic of radio isn't just a voice speaking. It's the human perspective, the judgment, the sensitivity, the ability to tell the world from a real experience.

I don't know how far this will go. But I have a feeling that if we don't set limits soon, the day we realize that technology has replaced us will be too late.
