GironaThe player with a more attractive poster of the current Girona squad, Left-back Miguel Gutiérrez is on the verge of solving part of the club's problems, which needs to make a significant sale to help them cover their salary cap. Gutiérrez and the Girona side are currently in talks with Napoli, the current Serie A champions, and could close the deal imminently for a figure of approximately 20 million euros. That money would not go entirely to Montilivi, because Madrid owns 50% of the player's rights.

The numbers show that Girona will receive around 10 million euros for the Madrid native, who cost 4 million in 2022. A profitable deal, especially considering his outstanding performance over this time under Míchel, who has been developing him into one of the best. Gutiérrez has been a key player in the club's most recent achievements, where he has played 112 matches and scored six goals.

In these three years, Girona has achieved a comfortable permanence in the elite, even flirting with the Conference League upon his return; an unthinkable qualification for the Champions League, with an unprecedented third place in the First Division and playing wonderful football; and a more difficult survival than expected, punished by the debacle the squad suffered in the summer. In all these objectives, Gutiérrez played a prominent role. Especially when he changed roles and positioned himself in the interior areas, which did not slow his attacks into the opposing box.

The Rojiblanco number three missed the final La Liga matches due to ankle discomfort, for which he recently underwent surgery. This prompted Montilivi to urgently explore other leap-year options, with particular attention to Tsygankov, Yangel Herrera, and Arnau. In fact, even if Miguel ultimately leaves Girona, it's not out of the question that some of his current teammates could also leave. Everything will depend on the financial offers they receive.

Àlex Moreno and Akieme, the alternatives

Who will replace Gutiérrez on the left? For now, the Girona offices are working with two clear names on the table: Catalan Àlex Moreno, who belongs to Aston Villa, and Madrid-born Sergio Akieme, from Stade Reims. Both played with Míchel at Rayo Vallecano, which makes the discussion easier.

It's complicated by the fact that, without going any further, Betis also want Moreno, whose contract expires next year and commands a very high salary. Furthermore, Akieme's Reims—who cost 6 million—were relegated to the Second Division, and the player could be happy to leave. In Seville, they've added a third name to the equation: Catalan full-back Adrià Pedrosa, who would like to leave the club and whose situation has been inquired about by Girona.

Miguel's departure and the arrival of a financial injection will begin to unblock the situation in an August with many unresolved issues at Montilivi, with just two weeks left until the start of the La Liga season. For now, the club has announced the loan signings of Hugo Rincón and Thomas Lemar and is close to signing two players on loan from Manchester City, Vitor Reis and Claudio Echeverri. More reinforcements will arrive, and others will also leave.
