Shock in the League: match suspended in Tenerife after a player leaves the field in an ambulance

BarcelonaThe match that was being played this Monday at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium between Tenerife and Andorra, corresponding to the 12th matchday of the Second Division, has been suspended in the 108th minute, towards the end, due to a wild tackle by goalkeeper Jesús Owono on the local forward Jesús de Miguel, 30 years old. The Tenerife footballer collapsed to the pitch and needed to be evacuated.

The referee from Madrid, Manuel Ángel Pérez, stopped the game after this action and immediately sent off Jesús Owono, who had returned to the pitch to check on the health status of his fellow professional. The players from both teams, distressed by the harshness of the incident, called for medical assistance upon seeing Jesús de Miguel's state of unconsciousness.

According to the Diario de Avisos, a Canarian newspaper, the footballer suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest following the strong impact. The player regained his pulse thanks to the cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) maneuvers performed by medical services inside the ambulance. De Miguel is breathing on his own, although he remains unconscious. After being initially stabilized, he was rushed to the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the island's capital. The footballer is admitted to the ICU, where he is "stable, but in serious condition," according to the Canarian club.

The match, which was initially scheduled for this Sunday at 9:00 PM, was suspended due to the active warning of heavy rains expected in the Canary Islands. The complexity of the schedule—the CD Tenerife women's first team plays this Monday night at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium—had left this midday slot as one of the few viable solutions to avoid having to reschedule it for a later date.
