The Catalan Data Protection Authority (APDCAT) is participating in the Children's Festival at the Fira Montjuïc venue from December 27th to 31st, with the aim of raising awareness among children and families about privacy. Taking advantage of this fun and educational event, APDCAT will provide tips and advice to children on protecting their privacy online and on social media.

The space reserved for APDCAT is approximately 100 m²2This year's event simulates a tropical rainforest, with a central labyrinth made of a mesh net filled with intertwined data. Under the slogan "Don't let the net entangle you," the Authority will challenge children and families to decide which data needs to be "saved" from the internet and not shared with others. The challenge is to choose which personal data to keep private, as this data identifies or can be used to identify individuals. This includes data such as name, phone number, address, image, and voice recordings. Depending on how this data is used by others, there can be negative consequences. The Catalan Data Protection Authority (APDCAT), as part of its work to raise awareness among vulnerable groups such as children, promotes understanding of the risks of losing control of personal data by sharing personal information online and on social media. Magic tricks for children

In addition to raising awareness through play, APDCAT will also offer the magic show 'P@ssW0rd!' once a day during the festival. show It promotes children's participation in discovering the key facts that will allow them to solve a final enigma surrounding personal data, through various magic tricks and lots of fun.

The show can be seen on the youth stage on December 27th at 11:00 AM; December 28th at 5:00 PM; December 29th at 11:00 AM; December 30th at 5:00 PM; and December 31st at 10:30 AM.

In collaboration with the Library Service of the Department of Culture and the Barcelona Provincial Council, this year marks its third edition. Sixteen libraries from the Barcelona, Girona, Lleida, Tarragona, and Terres de l'Ebre regions are participating, offering 48 activities for children, young people, and adults. The activities began in September with the magic show 'P@ssW0rd!'. The show can still be seen today at the Salou Municipal Public Library, performed by magician Pol Pavo. In addition to the show, the project includes other activities for children, such as MemorDada, a memory game for children up to 12 years old designed to explore internet risks; and a video story. An exciting journey, a screening for children up to 9 years old, which reflects on Jana's experiences in the virtual world; or the reading workshops of The parrot and The kind tigerwhich includes two storytelling sessions for children aged 7 to 11, to raise awareness of the risks of sharing data with others.

For young people and adults, the program also includes different activities such as the workshop Create Your Secure Digital Content; the interactive game You Choose!, for young people aged 12 to 16; and reading workshops QualityLand and The sentimental mutationTwo science fiction novels for adults that delve into disruptive scenarios with algorithms, artificial intelligence, and intensive use of technology, to discuss the risks to privacy and intimacy. Also, a film forum with the screening of Ghost in the Shell 2.0, Snowden and Catfishwhich includes a subsequent discussion, for a youth and adult audience.

The use of technology requires, now more than ever, activating critical thinking among users, which is why APDCAT promotes these types of activities. Raising awareness of the value of personal data and the importance of protecting it is fundamental to maintaining autonomy, independence, and freedom in a digital world.
