Air connectivity is key to economic development, the mobility of people, and cohesion between regions. Within this framework, Barcelona has become a central hub, and Vueling has established itself as a key player in facilitating it. This structural role is now taking off. In fact, Vueling has scheduled its most ambitious winter season ever. From Barcelona, the airline offers more than 10 million seats and has strengthened connections both within Spain and those linking the city with the Balearic and Canary Islands, as well as with Europe.

In Barcelona, the company has not only expanded its capacity but has also consolidated a connectivity model designed to meet a wide range of needs: business travel, family connections, leisure activities, and essential services. This network helps to unite different regions and reinforces Barcelona's role as an open and connected economic capital.

Vueling's winter, in figures

This year, Vueling is offering over 400,000 additional seats compared to last winter and will strengthen its strategic routes between the Spanish mainland and the islands. Connections to the Canary Islands will increase by 6% and to the Balearic Islands by 5%, with the aim of ensuring stable travel throughout the year, not just during peak season.

From Barcelona, the company will also expand its international reach. This winter, it will increase the number of seats on flights to France by 10% and strengthen its presence in other European and North African markets, expanding connection options for both leisure and business travelers. Beyond volume, the model will prioritize functionality: routes and frequencies with a wide range of schedules, designed to facilitate same-day round trips, especially important for business travel. This network, operating from Barcelona, will help connect different regions and maintain more balanced connectivity throughout the year.

Connect more, but with less impact

This enhanced connectivity runs parallel to a comprehensive sustainability strategy that Vueling is implementing across all its operations. For the company, it is crucial to find solutions to the challenge of reducing its environmental impact and increasing the social return on its business, within the context of a profound transformation of the aviation sector.

In the environmental sphere, Vueling is making progress in decarbonizing its operations through various initiatives aimed at mitigating the impact of its activity. On the one hand, it promotes the use of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF); on the other, it is committed to optimizing flight paths and using digital tools that improve the operational efficiency of its fleet by reducing fuel consumption and associated emissions. The goal is clear: to connect more territories with an ever-smaller environmental footprint.

Furthermore, the ESG strategy also focuses on the social dimension of connectivity. The company maintains an active role in areas such as organ transport for transplants and humanitarian flights, and promotes initiatives related to accessibility, inclusion, and support for the communities in which it operates. Within this framework, connectivity is understood not only as a matter of mobility, but also as a tool for cohesion and territorial equity.

This approach aligns with the IAG group's commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 and positions sustainability as a core element of Vueling's growth model. It's a way of addressing the challenge of flying more and better, without separating connectivity from environmental and social responsibility.

In this context, a vision of connectivity emerges that extends beyond airport growth. It's a connectivity designed to guarantee stable mobility, sustain economic activity, and strengthen ties between regions, integrating environmental and social criteria into a sector undergoing transformation. Ultimately, it's about connecting better, not just to reach further, but to do so in a more balanced and responsible way.
