BarcelonaWhat seemed like two seemingly isolated crimes are increasingly appearing to be linked. ARA has learned that the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) are investigating whether the 24-year-old man arrested on September 20 for murdering and dismembering another man in Vilanova i la Geltrú is also the alleged perpetrator of the homicide of a homeless man 10 days earlier in the same capital of Garraf. In fact, sources consulted by this newspaper indicate that the profile of the alleged murderer, currently in pretrial detention, could correspond to that of a serial killer.

The homeless man, named Milan, who was in his 50s, was stabbed to death on September 11 in the park where he usually slept. According to ARA, everything points to the fact that he was also sexually assaulted before being killed. Initially, there was no clear hypothesis for his death: he was a friendly man, with a good relationship with his neighbors, and apparently without enemies.

Just over a week later, a municipal employee found a suitcase next to a dumpster in Vilanova and upon opening it discovered the body of a man. The police went to the apartment where he lived and arrested a 24-year-old man, who had been living with him for a few days. The victim had been stabbed to death and then cut into pieces. Dismembered body parts were also found inside the home. The man was arrested immediately and remanded in custody.

The investigation is ongoing.

Both investigations have progressed in parallel until they finally found each other. The Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police), as this newspaper has been able to confirm, found evidence at the homeless man's crime scene that leads them to believe that the alleged perpetrator of the dismemberment could have also killed the man found in the park a few days earlier. Some empirical results are still needed before the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) can take the step of re-arresting the young man, currently in prison, for a second crime.

The investigation is also focusing on trying to determine who this young man is and what his profile is. According to sources consulted by this newspaper, he had recently been in Vilanova. Therefore, the police are reconstructing his route and the places he has visited. They are investigating him as a potential serial killer and want to verify that there are no other fatalities in some of the places he has been. His relationship with the two victims is also unclear. It appears the dismemberment victim had welcomed him into her home a few days earlier, but the connection to homelessness is still under investigation.
