The executors of Pere Mir's will are being investigated for possible irregularities in the foundations.
The Generalitat has taken over the administration of Cellex and Mir Puig, and among those investigated is oncologist Josep Tabernero.

The three main executors of the will of patron and chemist Pere Mir Puig are being investigated by a Barcelona court as part of a criminal proceeding opened for alleged irregularities in the administration of the private scientific foundations Cellex and Mir Puig.
As has been advanced Global Chronicle As ARA has been able to confirm, those under investigation include Josep Tabernero, oncologist and head of the medical oncology service at Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, as well as the other two executors of Mir's will: Jordi Segarra—who is currently listed as the president of the boards of trustees of the Cellex and Mir Puig foundations—and lawyer Juan. Sources from the defense of the three suspects confirm that last week they were "temporarily detained" while the police carried out a search and that all three were released as suspects for alleged crimes of disloyal administration and misappropriation. The defense team insists on the innocence of the three suspects and criticizes the application of "disproportionate measures."
The actions of recent days are allegedly linked to a judicial investigation to determine whether there have been irregularities in the management of the assets accumulated during the lifetime of the Catalan chemist and businessman Pere Mir, who died in 2017. The investigation is now underway to determine whether his inheritance went entirely to his foundations or not. The origin of this investigation dates back to 2019, when Ángel Surroca, who had been a director at the company Derivados Forestales – owned by Mir – filed a complaint with the Department of Justice questioning whether, when Mir died, "society" had actually been made available to the foundations.
Dismissal of the employers
In recent days, the Ministry of Justice has assumed, by court order and "immediately," the judicial administration of the Cellex and Mir Puig foundations, and their four associated commercial companies. As the Department of Justice explained in a statement, last Monday, Barcelona's 12th Court of Instruction agreed to appoint the General Directorate of Law and Legal Entities to handle the judicial administration of Cellex, a healthcare company, and Mir Puig, a healthcare support company for people in need of assistance.
At the same time, the court dismissed the trustees of both entities, as well as the administrators of the commercial companies linked to these foundations. Thus, the Generalitat has also assumed the administration of Simex, Mil Veinte, Interesessai, and Jose Pàmies SA, all commercial companies linked to the two parent foundations.
Mir created the private foundation Cellex in 2002, and the entity has since funded projects such as the Institute of Photonic Sciences, the Biomedical Research Center of the University of Barcelona (UB), the August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (Idibaps), and the Idibaps CIMs+Cellex scholarship program for high school students specializing in science and mathematics.
