The DNI can now be carried on your mobile: how to activate it?
Public and private entities are obligated to accept the MiDNI app
BarcelonaThe digital DNI is now as valid as the physical card since this Thursday, when the MiDNI application was officially launched a year ago to consult the digital version of the identity card. From today, public and private entities are obliged to accept it. Its launch comes as the electronic DNI turns 20, which marked the integration of the identity document into the digital transformation of the state administration.
What can be done with MiDNI?
It is a valid means of legal identification under the same conditions as the physical ID card. It allows you to prove your identity in person, for example, before a notary, to register at a hotel, to rent a vehicle, to buy tickets or personalized passes, to pick up medication at pharmacies, or to prove you are of legal age. It also serves to access concerts, collect courier packages, or carry out procedures at the Post Office.
What can't be done?
MyDNI does not serve to prove identity online or as an electronic signature, nor will it work in person without coverage or internet access. It also does not serve as a travel document to cross borders or to prove identity outside the State.
Furthermore, from the application, only the mobile owner's DNI can be activated, not that of different people. In case of changing mobile phones, it will be necessary to re-associate the DNI with the new phone number.
¿What is needed to get the digital DNI?
You need to have a valid physical ID card, register in the MiDNI app and activate it. Registration can be done online, at National Police stations, at documentation units, or at the more than 300 town halls that have Documentation Update Points.
How is it activated?
To activate the digital DNI, you need to download the MiDNI application, enter your DNI number and the document support number. The app will ask you to create a password and enter the verification code that will arrive by SMS. Once the registration is complete, you will be able to virtualize your DNI.
Is it safe?
MiDNI does not store the citizen's identity data, but rather consults it in real time from the DNI management unit. In case the document has been lost or stolen, the citizen can annul the digital version by reporting it to the National Police.
What data can be consulted?
The application offers three options depending on the data you want to display.
The ID AGE: will show the photograph, the name and the age of majority. The SIMPLE ID: will reflect the photograph, the name and surnames, the sex and the validity of the ID. The FULL ID: shows all the data that appears on the physical document.How does it work?
Once the desired level of information is chosen, the application generates a QR code that appears on the DNI holder's mobile screen. It is a code generated by the National Police, which ensures that the data is authentic, and will be visible for a short period of time. Afterwards, it will lose its validity and a new code will have to be generated.
