The Firefighters stabilize the resurgence of the fire in Guimerà, in Urgell
The fire improves during the afternoon and the Firefighters stabilize it again
BarcelonaHigh temperatures continue to test firefighters. This Thursday afternoon was marked by the resurgence of the fire in Guimerà, in the Urgell region, which firefighters were able to stabilize again. The fire started burning on Wednesday at a quarter to nine in the evening and firefighters managed to stabilize it, but this afternoon it flared up again and forced the confinement of 21,000 people in total, including the entire city of Tàrrega.
The sea breeze that was blowing strongly in the area caused the right flank of the fire to flare up again, which became active again and burned uncontrollably for hours, mainly affecting cereal fields and some areas of forest vegetation between the crops. However, around nine in the evening, the intervention chief of the Generalitat Firefighters, Juanjo Bellostas, explained that the wind had eased and "the fire situation is much better". Therefore, at that moment, the extinguishing teams are confident in being able to stabilize the fire again "in a few hours" if the meteorological conditions remain. In fact, around 10:20 PM they declared the fire stabilized.
According to the provisional report by the Rural Agents, the resurgence of this fire has affected 167 hectares. Added to those that had already burned on Wednesday, the affected area currently amounts to 328 hectares. Bellostas thanked the help of farmers and the Forest Defense Groups (ADF), who on Wednesday had already contributed to "closing the perimeter" of the fire and who on Thursday are also acting on the flanks, especially the right one, "the priority one," which is the one heading towards Tàrrega.
"We continue to suffer from the simultaneity of fires"
During the afternoon, the Firefighters also worked on a vegetation fire in Salàs de Pallars. The fire was quickly stabilized and forced the temporary withdrawal of some aerial resources working on the Guimerà fire. "We continue to suffer from the simultaneity of fires," lamented Bellostas. On the other hand, about ten units attended a small fire in Cadaqués, in the area of the Cap de Creus lighthouse. A vehicle, containers, and forest mass burned.
Regarding the preventive confinements due to the fire in Urgell, in addition to Tàrrega, the residents of the town of Mas de Bondia, Verdú, Vilagrassa, Granyanella, and the Riambau industrial estate were also affected. Furthermore, the fire forced the closure of the LV-2101 road in Granyena de Segarra.
