Execution in broad daylight in Castelldefels: three shots fired at a man from Montenegro
The Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) are trying to locate the gunman, who fled on foot after opening fire.
CastelldefelsOne. Two. Three. These are the sounds that echoed through a residential area of Castelldefels, in the Baix Llobregat region, on Monday afternoon. It was approximately 4:00 PM. In broad daylight, a man was walking along Doctor Fleming Street when, suddenly, another man approached him and shot him three times. He did so at close range, without exchanging a word. This is the account of a witness who saw the incident, which has been collected by the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police), who are now investigating this latest crime in Catalonia. First, neighbors and then paramedics tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate the man, who ultimately died. According to ARA, the man was originally from Montenegro. The police had no prior information about him. This suggests that he had only recently arrived in the country and that the shooting may have been an execution. After firing the shots, the perpetrator fled on foot, most likely through a park located next to the crime scene. It all happened on a sidewalk, next to some dumpsters, in a residential area with a few businesses. "I heard three shots. I thought they were firecrackers. But when my colleagues went outside, they saw the victim on the ground. And there was no trace of the shooter," a worker recounted. The Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) tried to cordon off the crime scene and even deployed a helicopter, but so far they haven't found the gunman.
Possible revenge
Based on the man's profile and the type of crime, the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) are investigating whether a drug trafficking conflict lies behind these events. Revenge killings in the drug world often end in this way. For example, this crime is similar to one that occurred last July in the Eixample district, when a man from Eastern Europe—who had also recently arrived in Catalonia— He died from gunshot wounds right on Consell de Cent street. A week later there was another attempted execution in the Eixample district. This time the victim was a known jewelry thief from Montenegrowho survived. Both cases are being investigated as revenge killings linked to the drug cartel wars in these Eastern European countries.
This is the third violent death in Catalonia in just a few hours. The first was early Sunday morning in Molins de Rei, during a fight that left a man fatally stabbed. The second is still under investigation: the body of a man with a gunshot wound was found in Tarragona, and authorities are looking into whether it could be a hunting-related incident.
