Arrested for killing a woman and living with her corpse for six months in Barcelona

The Mossos d'Esquadra are working to identify the victim, who is believed to be the partner of the arrested man.

BarcelonaThe Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) have arrested a 55-year-old man for the discovery of a woman's body in her apartment in Ciutat Meridiana, in the Nou Barris district of Barcelona. According to sources consulted by ARA, police found the woman's body wrapped in plastic in a room of the home on Sunday afternoon. Neighbors had complained of strong odors, and according to initial estimates, she had been dead for six months. The body was in an advanced state of decomposition, which is complicating identification efforts.

The main police hypothesis is that it is the detainee's partner, as the physical characteristics of the body fit this theory, according to ARA. After performing an autopsy, forensic experts determined that the death was a criminal offense, and the Mossos d'Esquadra are now investigating it as a homicide. If this is confirmed, it would be the third femicide of 2025.

Neighbors, according to statements made to this newspaper, hadn't seen the woman for some time. They say that, around the time of the pandemic, the detainee and the alleged victim had been living together in the apartment. They often heard screams and banging. He has been a lifelong resident of the neighborhood and is well known for causing altercations and confrontations. He took over the property, a second floor apartment on Perafita Street, when his mother died. According to neighbors, the prime suspect in the crime had drug problems and was "a hotbed of trouble." "He had no respect for women; he insulted me on the street," says one neighbor.

"He argued with everyone."

A large amount of duct tape can still be seen on his window. Neighbors explain that he had a camera pointing at the street after his motorcycle was burned one day. They also describe how some time ago he chained himself in front of the Red Cross offices so they would give him food. "There wasn't a single person in the neighborhood with whom he hadn't argued," explains another neighbor. For now, the detainee will be brought before a court in the coming hours.
