A man has been arrested after confessing to killing his ex-partner in Madrid.
This week a mother and daughter were also murdered in Xilxes and another woman in Benicàssim
BarcelonaA 37-year-old woman was murdered this Wednesday in Madrid. Police have arrested the victim's ex-partner as the suspected perpetrator of the crime, which could be another case of gender-based violence and would be the fourth femicide in Spain this week, following the double murder of a woman and her daughter on Tuesday in Xilxes (Plana Baixa) and the murder of a nurse at her workplace on Monday in Benicàs; both in the province of Castellón. After the crime, the man went to a National Police patrol and confessed to killing his ex-partner, according to police sources cited by EFE. When officers arrived at the woman's home, they found her dead in a bedroom, lying on the bed with clear signs of strangulation. The victim had been dead for several hours. The woman had two children, who were not the detainee's. It is not yet known whether there were prior reports of domestic violence within the couple, and the Spanish government's Delegation against Gender Violence is gathering information about Wednesday's murder in Madrid. So far, it has been reported that the murder took place on López Hoyos Street in the capital.
Husband of victim from Xilxes arrested
Regarding the double murder on Tuesday in Xilxes, the Civil Guard arrested the husband of the woman who was killed along with her 12-year-old daughter on Wednesday. Investigators consider him the suspected perpetrator of the crime, and he also violated a restraining order against the woman. The bodies of the woman and the girl were found in an apartment in the town. The mother was registered in the VioGén system for monitoring cases of gender-based violence, and in the last assessment just a few days ago, she was deemed to be at "medium risk." The restraining order against the man was reportedly in effect until 2027. The victims belong to a well-known deaf family in Xilxes, a town of about 3,000 people. As part of the investigation into this double murder, the Civil Guard has requested footage from the town hall's security cameras that focus on the apartment where the bodies of the woman and her daughter were found. The mayor of Xilxes, Ismael Minguet, explained that the objective is to look for clues about movements in the area or about the possible entry or exit of anyone from the property in the hours leading up to the incident. Minguet also indicated that, according to the father himself—who is now in custody—he had received images via WhatsApp on his mobile phone, which led him to go to the house. Sources involved in the search confirmed to EFE that the head of the Local Police received photos showing the victims' bodies and someone wearing a hood next to them.
