BarcelonaThe Department of Health is studying possible sanctions and corrective measures for the healthcare centers that treated the allegedly abused baby in Barcelona, whose parents remain in preventive detention. The child went through the Hospital del Mar, the CAP Roger de Flor, the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, and the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, which visited him twice and detected a fractured femur. The center activated the protocol for suspected child abuse and the infant was transferred on March 16 to the Vall d'Hebron Hospital, which is the reference center for the care of this type of case. The specialized unit detected serious injuries in the patient and alleged sexual assaults.

When it learned of the case, the department launched an investigation to analyze the care the baby received during the different visits to healthcare centers. The reasons for the care provided to the minor were diverse and of different consideration, and now, as advanced by El Periódico and confirmed by Health sources to el ARA, Health assumes that there will be sanctions and corrective measures in some of the healthcare centers. The baby was hospitalized for a month at Vall d'Hebron, the first few days in the ICU, due to the serious injuries, some of which will leave him with lifelong consequences, and is currently with a foster family, always under the guardianship of the Generalitat.

"The department must oversee, monitor, and, if instructions are not followed, sanction," explain Health sources, clarifying that it has not yet been determined what the sanctions will be and how many centers will be sanctioned. A few weeks ago, the Prosecutor's Office already asked the judge investigating the case to interrogate all the doctors who treated the infant to specify the symptoms he had and whether they had detected injuries that could be related to abuse. The parents remain in provisional prison accused of the crimes of habitual abuse, very serious injuries, and sexual assault of their son, a child just over a month old. Neither of them had a criminal record.
