BarcelonaJust one month after leaving prison, the man who left the Ponent penitentiary center with a high risk of reoffending has acted again. The Guardia Urbana of Lleida arrested him this Friday afternoon for attempting to rob a supermarket in the capital of Segrià, according to sources consulted by ARA. The arrested man allegedly drew a weapon —which appears to be a replica— and left the premises without managing to take anything. The police located him an hour later in another part of Lleida.

The man was released in mid-April and the prison had already warned that he was not rehabilitated. In fact, he has a long criminal record. He was known in the 80s for his robberies and has spent half his life behind bars. He served time for killing two people, including an officer while fleeing a robbery, and also for shooting a former police officer who died months later. After five months of freedom, he returned to prison for a robbery, and in April he regained his freedom. The workers who treated him in prison warned that they see a risk of him reoffending, for reasons including that he did not want to follow any treatment program.

Specifically, the penitentiary center alerted the Lleida Prosecutor's Office that it saw a "significant risk of new criminal acts," according to sources from the Department of Justice consulted by ARA. Therefore, the public ministry asked the Mossos d'Esquadra to keep the man under their radar once he left prison.
