The Archbishopric of Barcelona intervenes three foundations for fraudulent sales and irregularities

BarcelonaThe Archbishopric of Barcelona has intervened in three church foundations after detecting alleged irregularities in their administration. The measure affects the Valldejuli Foundation, the Sant Josep Oriol Foundation, and the Mare de Déu dels Desemparats Foundation, as reported this Wednesday by the archbishopric in a statement.

In the case of the Valldejuli Foundation, the archbishopric has appointed two new joint administrators with the aim of ensuring its good administration. The decision was made following an investigation commissioned to an external auditor, which allegedly detected fraudulent sales of the Foundation's assets below their value, as well as other irregularities in the entity's management.

After the investigation results became known, both the administrator and the director of the Valldejuli Foundation submitted their resignations. Both were also linked to the Sant Josep Oriol Foundation and the Mare de Déu dels Desemparats Foundation, in which they have also resigned from the positions they held.

According to the archbishopric, investigations suggest that these other two foundations may also have been subject to irregular administration. The diocesan institution keeps the inquiries open to clarify in detail all actions and obtain complete information of the facts.
