A fire is burning out of control in Zaragoza and already affects 12,000 hectares

The flames have advanced strongly tonight and force the evacuation of 700 residents

BarcelonaA forest fire in Orés, Zaragoza, has already burned about 12,000 hectares of forest and has forced the evacuation of about 700 residents from five different municipalities. According to the Aragonese Firefighters, the fire has advanced "significantly" overnight and, despite intense work, the flames have burned more area than initially expected.

According to reports from the Aragonese government's forest fire prevention and extinction service (Infoar), the fire reached the municipalities of Malpica de Arba and Uncastillo last night, and these locations had to be protected. Residents, along with those from Orés, Asín, and Luesia, had to leave their homes as a precaution.

Last night, from Thursday to Friday, ground work for extinguishing the fire was intensified, and this morning a relief of brigade personnel and the incorporation of air resources are planned. Currently, level 2 of the Special Plan for Civil Protection for Forest Fires (PROCINFO) is activated.

The vice-president of the Spanish government and minister for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Sara Aagesen, will visit the forward command post located in Farasdués, Zaragoza, this Friday to learn about the fire situation firsthand. The president of Aragon, Jorge Azcón, will also be there.
