The fire in Girona, which has forced the confinement of some 3,000 people, has been stabilized.
The fire started in an area of vegetation near the Font de la Pólvora neighborhood and firefighters stabilized it two hours later.

GironaFirefighters have declared the blaze stabilized, which broke out around 2:30 p.m. in a vegetation-covered area near the Font de la Pólvora neighborhood of Girona. Twenty-five crews were working, five of them aerial, and are still on the ground monitoring the flanks and soaking the burned area to prevent possible re-ignition. According to provisional data from the Rural Agents, it has burned 1.8 hectares of land.
During the afternoon, firefighters worked hard to prevent the fire from spreading toward the Sant Daniel Valley, on the right flank, where the fire had developed secondary sources, opening a path toward the Gavarres Nature Reserve. Due to the fire, Civil Protection has sent a lockdown alert to the residents of the Font de la Pólvora neighborhood and the Les Pedreres residential area around Torre Gironella. The message was sent to mobile phones and asked people to stay home and close their doors and windows. In total, it affected around 3,000 residents for approximately three hours.
When the fire started, black smoke was visible from several points in the Girona capital. But emergency services were quickly activated, and within an hour, there was virtually no trace of smoke in the direction of Les Gavarres.
The vegetation-covered area in eastern Girona, next to the poor neighborhoods of Fuente de la Pólvora and Les Pedreres, is a high-risk area for fires, and almost every summer there are fire warnings requiring firefighters to intervene.
