Close on repeat offenders: 30 people arrested in seven hours

Those arrested in this new Kanpai plan had more than 200 criminal records.

BarcelonaNew joint device of the police forces to catch thieves and repeat offenders in Catalonia. The Mossos d'Esquadra, together with the urban guard, the local police and the Spanish police, They carried out a new Kanpai plan yesterday (this is how they have dubbed this type of operation) that allowed them to identify and arrest up to thirty people in just seven hours, with a total of 226 criminal records, and locate another four people under criminal investigation, with a total of 48 records.

All of this took place between 4 p.m. and 11 p.m. Officers from the various forces spread out across different locations in Hospitalet de Llobregat, Esplugues, Cornellà, and the southern part of Barcelona. According to police sources explained to ARA, in this time alone, the police opened 70 cases—apart from the arrests—for possession of weapons, drugs, or disrespect to officers. They also recovered four stolen motorcycles and seized three scooters. In addition, the operation also registered sixteen administrative complaints for various acts.

In total, officers identified 1,635 people, with a total of 4,023 criminal records. Of these, 30 were arrested. During the operation, 628 vehicles were inspected, and 11 premises were raided and searched.

By city, the bulk of the people identified and vehicles checked occurred in L'Hospitalet, with 662 people identified with 1,420 criminal records, 72 vehicles, 4 bar inspections, 15 arrests, and 2 people criminally investigated for driving without a license. In one of these searches, officers were able to stop an illegal gambling operation, from which they ended up seizing €815 in cash.

In Cornellà, 194 people were identified (344 criminal records), 14 vehicles checked, and 2 people arrested. In Esplugues, 5 people were arrested (out of 199 people identified, who had 294 criminal records), one criminal complaint, and nine administrative complaints. The remaining arrests occurred in the southern part of the Catalan capital.

This isn't the first Kanpai operation carried out by police forces in Catalonia. Since they were announced, several have been carried out in different parts of Barcelona and also in cities such asTarragona, Lleida and Girona. The plan involves the simultaneous deployment of hundreds of officers with the goal of removing repeat offenders from the streets and providing a greater sense of security to the public.
