Arrested for killing and dismembering a man in Vilanova i la Geltrú and leaving him in a suitcase
The victim and the arrested person shared a squatted apartment, where body parts were also allegedly found.
BarcelonaThe Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) have arrested a 24-year-old man after finding the body of another man, completely dismembered, inside a suitcase in the center of Vilanova i la Geltrú, in the Garraf region. As reported by El Caso and confirmed by ARA, the suitcase was found by a cleaning worker this Saturday morning next to a dumpster on Carrer del Aigua, very close to Plaça de l'Anxaneta. The worker notified the emergency services at 7:39 a.m., and the local police and Mossos d'Esquadra quickly cordoned off the area. Shortly after, according to police sources, municipal police officers arrested a man, the deceased's roommate, as the prime suspect in the crime. The arrest came after a brief chase: the alleged murderer, when the local police arrived at the apartment where they lived, attempted to flee by jumping off the balcony to another building. According to ARA, it was a squatted apartment on Lepant Street, not far from where the body was found. Local officers had already identified both individuals due to previous cohabitation and civility issues.
According to sources consulted by this newspaper, parts of the victim's body were also reportedly found in this squatted apartment on Lepant Street. The Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) of the Southern Metropolitan Police Region has taken over the investigation after the body was recovered. The police are working to determine the cause of the death. A few minutes after 10:00 a.m., the Vilanova i la Geltrú City Council issued a statement on social media condemning the events: "Faced with the knowledge of yet another violent death in just a few days in our city, the City Council wishes to express its profound condemnation of these events." A violent stabbing had already occurred in the municipality on September 11, when a homeless man, Milan, who had been living in a park for five years, suffered several fatal stab wounds. The council called for "caution" in light of the events, two deaths in less than ten days, which it considers "exceptional."
