A beekeeper attacks two Mossos d'Esquadra officers with bees after stopping him at a traffic stop.
The 70-year-old man is accused of assaulting an authority figure and the officers had to be treated at the CAP.
BarcelonaA harmless police stop ended like an action movie. In this case, the plot focuses on Cervera and features a 70-year-old beekeeper, who was stopped by a patrol of the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) while driving on the N-II highway without wearing a seatbelt. The man got out of the van, opened the back door, and unexpectedly released hundreds of bees, intending to attack the two officers. He succeeded, as the Mossos had to be treated at a health center for insect bites.
The incident occurred on May 30 near Cervera, according to the newspaper. Segre, which reports that, in addition to violating seatbelt regulations, the man was driving with clear symptoms of intoxication. Therefore, the Mossos d'Esquadra performed an initial breathalyzer test, and when they informed him they would perform a second one, the driver went to the back of the van, opened the doors, and released the bees. "Now I'm going to kill you," the man told the officers, according to the same sources, who claim that he had previously greeted them by saying, "I would have had to run over you."
The officers, taken completely by surprise and without any protective measures, tried to take refuge in a nearby restaurant and were even treated by the restaurant's customers, but were unable to escape the bee stings. Due to the stress of the situation and the intense pain, both Mossos d'Esquadra were first taken to a primary care center. Once they had controlled the hive inside the vehicle, the Mossos d'Esquadra arrested the beekeeper, who is now accused of assaulting law enforcement officers, as well as driving under the influence of alcohol and without a seatbelt.
